DOWN SYNDROME FAMILIES--Do you recommend the long-armed glasses frames (curl around the ears), OR the frames with straps that wrap arond the back of the head?
PLEASE leave a comment, and let me know what works best for you.
We are seeing evidence every day that Anthony might live differently once his glasses are ordered.

We do salad a lot.
This was last night's line-up.
I need to get some more of my favorite, Gardini's caesar.

When Aubrey got her glasses this year, we just got regular glasses. She actually had a strap for her hearing aids in the beginning and it was just one more thing for her to play with. Once we left it off, she left her hearing aids alone, so when it came to glasses, I declined the strap. Her glasses are wire frames and the arms bend down by her ear, but not around them. They also have a extra piece of plastic on the bridge of the nose, so that they fit properly.
We started out with having her just wear them for short periods of time at the beginning, but consistently. Now she mostly just wears them at school and in group settings where she needs to see more, otherwise, she doesn't wear them a lot just around the house.
Hope this helps. If you have any other questions, let us know;)
I found your blog from Jaxson's blog. My son has glasses every since he was six months old. The glasses that we use is called curly. The glasses wrap around the back of his ears.
Hi, I came over from Jaxsons blog. My son is 4 and just got glasses this summer and we ordered just regular arms and tried to use a strap, well the strap is too long so we had to pull it together and rubber band it so it would be tight enough, and then it gets too tight, so really isnt't working out. We are going to order from Specs 4 Us which are made specifically for children with Down Syndrome. Our eye Doctor ordered a kit so we could try them on and they are really great! Check out their website

Another visitor from Jaxson's blog. And another vote for specs4us.com. I have two daughters with Ds (adopted from Ukraine a year ago) and they both wear the specs4us glasses. The glasses fit great & stay on their faces without wrap-around arms or straps, but we DO us straps to keep them from pulling the glasses off & tossing 'em.
We were fortunate to have an optometrist locally who carries the specs4us line, so we didn't have to order online, but I've heard the company is great to work with if you do have to go the online route. Definitely give 'em a try ~ that's my vote!

When our daughter, Gracie, got her first pair of glasses, we chose "Solobambini" frames. They are soft, flexible and nearly impossible for little ones to break. They come with a strap, too. If your office doesn't carry them, you can order the frames from the store or online (solobambini.com) and then have the lenses made. For us, it was well worth the expense.
Now that she's older, she wears a flexible metal frame with the curly q's on the earpiece. They are light, more adjustable (she has a very wide upper bridge of her nose) and flexible. They also are "low profile" enough to not interfere with BC (Bone Conduction) or BTEs (Behind the Ear) hearing aids.
Good luck!
Hi,
I also found you through Jaxon's blog. My now 4 year old with DS has worn glasses since she was 9 months old. I have done a couple of blog posts about Specs4Us & some tips on keeping glasses on kids. It's too much to write here, but here is a blog link if you are interested:
