There was a huge wild fire last summer in the hills above Wenatchee.
This summer, it has been humid and there have been some thunderstorms in the Wenatchee Valley.
When the storms have dumped rain, they REALLY dumped rain, and the emergency broadcasting service was actually used on all the radio stations to warn of the danger of flash flooding.
We have some friends who live in another ward (congregation) who were affected by a big flash flood, and the mudslide that ensued.
Our stake (group of congregations) asked members to come help with cleaning up debris last week.
I thought there would be a bunch of people there and we'd be done in less than an hour.
I think 130 people showed up, and were there for more than 3 hours, and it was nowhere near being cleaned up!
We made huge piles of sticks, shoveled some driveways, piled retaining wall bricks that had been washed down the street, and helped other neighbors there too.
It was a lot of work, but fun to do with friends.
