Today was another bone marrow aspiration (biopsy of the bone marrow). This was an important test to see how many leukemic cells were left after treatment so far. Last week, there was still 40-50% leukemic cells, when there "should" have been fewer. If today's biopsy showed that the leukemic cells weren't in remission (zero left), then we'd be classified as higher risk and would have to plan for another 2 months here, plus have more intensive therapy.
The doctor came in today and said that the preliminary tests showed the leukemia to be in remission! It's not an official count, but indicates the good news. We should know more for sure next week. If it is indeed in remission, we still need to "just" plan for the original 6 months we knew about at the start.
I learned how to administer iv antibiotics today. So weird when last year I was queasy and light-headed to see medications be put in the iv after heart surgery. But, no nausea or light-headedness for this! Hopefully we'll be able to be discharged in a few days again.
