*Sigh*
Almost 2 years ago, Anthony's port that had lasted 18 months, broke.
He had a new one placed (surgical procedure).
The new one did not heal well, and became life-threatingly infected.
We stayed a very long time in the hospital in Seattle, fighting to get the infection under control.
Anthony had a couple month break from ports, while having a PICC line in his arm.
Then, when the infection was very cleared up, a new port was placed.
A month later, we received a recall notice in the mail.
The recall was saying that ports like the new one could break, causing a need for a replacement part to be connected.
I was worried, but soon forgot about it since Anthony had no problems with it.
A year later (June 2012), we went to Seattle for Anthony's normal, monthly chemo treatment.
Anthony's port was not accessing correctly.
(The IV needle was not acting right, showing that something was wrong with the port)
Anthony got an IV placed in his arm, then we were sent straight down to x-ray to see what was going on.
The cather that connects to the port had completely broken off the port, and was floating in his right pulmonary artery.
So, the Cardiology Dept. got to do a catherization to fish the cather out of the artery.
In the catheterization, they thread a tube or something in his veins, starting from the groin.
Pretty serious stuff.
The following week, we needed to return to get the rest of the port out of his chest, and have a new port placed.
Monitoring his heart.
Notice the bruising around his port area on the left of Anthony's chest.
That is where the saline went in the tissue because the catheter was not sending the fluid through Anthony's veins.
We had to stay overnight for observation.
Anthony did not like it one bit.
Looking through the slats at Disney, Jr.
We didn't get out of there a minute too soon!
He had his IV lines pulled so tight.
I am SO grateful Anthony went through the majority of his intensive chemotherapy treatment when he was younger and not into so much mischief!
We stopped to visit Nana, GrandNana, and Aunt Di on our way home.
Anthony loves to climb in this little footstool, to watch his favorite movies.
